The Philosophy
Based on the oldest writings of humanity, the philosophy behind the Krishna Consciousness movement is entirely authentic and aligns with both reason and intuition.
Through the methods used exclusively by the current scientific community, one cannot determine the original cause of all things, nor understand the purpose of existence.
The Vedas teach— a profound voice emanating from the beginning of time—:
janmādy asya yataḥ
"The Absolute Truth is that (or that Person) from whom everything emanates."
Traditionally, in the spheres of Eastern philosophy, two schools of thought oppose each other regarding the nature of the Absolute Truth: the personalist school and the impersonalist school. One asserts that the Absolute Truth is a transcendental and eternal Person, while the other believes it to be a diffuse energy, incomprehensible to our senses and intellect.
The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the concluding book of all Vedic literature, somewhat reconciles this opposition by stating:
vadanti tat tattva-vidas tattvam yaj jñānam advayam
brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti śabdyate
(1.2.11)
…meaning that the Absolute Truth is perceived in different ways depending on the observer’s perspective and level of realization. Initially perceived as a formless light, the ultimate object of meditation gradually reveals itself to one who progresses further—as the Supreme Person residing in the heart of every being, and ultimately as Bhagavān, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the possessor of everything, eternally existing beyond the influence of the material world in His eternal form of infinite knowledge and bliss.
These three aspects are simply different perspectives of the same reality—just as the sun consists of the light of its rays, the solar globe, and ultimately, the deity governing the planet itself.
Every living being has an eternal loving relationship with this Supreme Person, God, or Krishna, and this relationship can be immediately revived through the simple practice of chanting His Divine Names:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare
This chanting is the principal practice of Bhakti-yoga, the science of engaging all human activities in the loving service of the Supreme.
